About

ARTIST STATEMENT
Photography is seeing life in a different light. It is capturing a moment of time forever. I strive to capture moments of aesthetic ecstasy and create the same for others. For me the work must transcend the page and become the aesthetic moment, and in that moment the world around you seems to stop; as it did for me at the moment of recognition. And in that recognition comes my interpretation to express the moment; lending to the grandiose, the minute, or the emotional.
Photography, for me, is black and white. It is the bare bones of light interacting with life's offerings. It is elegant with no distraction of color. Strip life of color and you can see the inner soul allowing the subject to stand alone, to be appreciated.
BIOGRAPHY
I was born and raised in Livermore, CA, about 45 miles east of San Francisco. As a child I was fortunate enough to be able to travel with my family on various vacations. I feel this was the unrealized start of my interest in photography. I was glued to the car window constantly looking for interesting subjects. Actually, the car window was probably my first viewfinder. As I went through grade school I always loved the art projects. In eighth grade I began art classes, taking a drawing class with a colorblind art teacher. I learned to draw with pencils and ink, and the love of breaking things down to black and white was born, but not nurtured.
My interest in art continued through to Humboldt State University, on the North Coast of California, and my love of nature blossomed. In 1998 with my first photography class, all was realized, and the oceanography major was out the window! I have been shooting ever since. I learned photography though the traditional processes of the darkroom, when digital photography was just getting started. I appreciate digital, but my true love is watching the first print appear in the developer.
